A Series of Pipes
Luckily for me my superiors are not very sophisticated when it comes to the internets (or much else for that matter). So far I’ve found that they’ve blocked Facebook, Twitter, Craigslist, and Ebay. Which are like the web sites they’ve heard of, or something like that.
I guess looking for a new apartment just got that much more annoying.
Action/Reaction
Someone wised up around here and blocked Twitter and Facebook. Truth be told it’s kinda fuckin’ up the program. My program anyway. I’m feeling a tad disconnected. The powers that be must not know of the existence of Tumblr or else they’d have sure as shit blocked it also. So here we are.
The bright side/green grass aspect of this is that instead of shitting out little...

Nothing beautiful can last forever. It’s why James Dean and Marilyn Monroe are still so popular—their looks will never see the damage of time and being out in the sun without sunscreen. For a while, Ichiro Suzuki seemed to be the one person immune to all of that. He’s still tall and thin, avoiding…
Well, that's over with.

Quitting Time
Sometimes I like the way my face looks reflected back at me in train windows. The rest of the time not. Then sometimes I get back above ground and don’t know where to go. There are bars close by so I go in and have a drink and talk myself into something. Then we do it all again tomorrow. Then if we’re lucky one day we die. That’s as much as I’ve figured out so far.

New Job Wish List
No metal detectors.
Fewer rapists.
Doors that don’t have to be unlocked via a control panel somewhere.
An office where I can not hear the sound of urination.
Collaborative, creative environment in which goals are sought and met.
Fewer murderers.
Writing things is one of my primary responsibilities.
The number of drug dealers can remain the same. That’s fine.

Work
I couldn’t do it. And since I didn’t really have to I didn’t. I phoned in, called out, and lay there with fans blowing warm air on me from three different directions. In the past I’ve pulled my act together and gone to work on a Sunday with ferocious hangovers or semi-debilitating bouts of depression. I had neither, yet today I simply saw no point in trying.
I could feel...
Look Fastball and Adjust
This is fundamental advice to hitters as well as to anyone trying to make it through the day. I, rather, mostly just stand there counting on something off-speed traveling in a straight line — metaphorically. I have had no occasion to try and hit a baseball in some time.
What needed to happen when I got home from work today was to get my ailing car to a mechanic. Failing that, something...

Tough Times in Brick City
I’ve learned our old friend Lil Keith was wounded by multiple gun shots last week. He is expected to live and is breathing on his own after having been in a coma for an unspecified period of time. His behavior “out on the bricks” of late was described to me as being “pretty grimey.”
Updates to follow.
Found
I’m cleaning out my apartment as I prepare to move and I’m finding some pretty amazing stuff. The highlight so far is a note I’d never seen before until today. It was written to me by a woman I’d just had a fling with. She wrote it inside a notebook. It’s probably about four years old.
Dear Mark,
These last few days with you have been intense, fun, light-hearted,...
Lunch
Sure, I quit smoking and can run three miles like it’s no big deal. But I’m still a bag-of-Cheez-Its for lunch kind of guy. Ho hum. Today is shaping up to be totally ass. I need a beer. What is it, Tuesday? Fucking hell.
I realized this morning that I’m on a great streak of not hearing a single song from Grease. Must be years. But a lot of that good was probably undone last week when I was forced to endure the first ten minutes of Jesus Christ Superstar.
What was I saying?

Jonesy: The Motion Picture
I’m knocking around some ideas for a script for a Jonesy movie; the structure of which would be akin to what I know about I’m Not There: different actors all playing Jonesy, all doing their own interpretation of a Jonesy phase, of which there are quite a few. Among them are, but are not limited to:
Jonesy whilst a (we assume angst-ridden) teen.
Jonesy whilst the bass player in a...
